As with many issues these days, the nuance is lost on people. NAKED shorts should be illegal. Betting on market prices should always be allowed for anyone. If you want to go long, go long. If you think its better to short, go short. Options are a good thing if everyone is playing by the same rules and using shares they own.

It's called a Naked Short. Investopedia claims it's "illegal" but that's not strictly true in the USA and not at all true for every market in the world (you can do this in several other markets in the world legally). https://www.investopedia.com/terms/n/nakedshorting.asp
Prob so they can use all the religion loopholes in tax and other law. Anything said to a priest, pastor etc is protected isn't it?
