The round may have hit the bone and caused the pressure cavity from the rapid deceleration. Normally it would take a bit more flesh to have that effect occur.

There just isn't a way to stop the bleeding though. Pressure would do nothing except cause additional fractures in the already compromised skull. Even if you were to somehow plug the holes, the internal bleeding against the brain is another death sentence.

it's all about whether you overpenetrate, or if the round transferes all of its force. Other than logistic reasons, its the entire reason the USA switched to a lighter round. It doesn't take as much flesh to start tumbling and cause the pressure cavity.
