They have been trying that push for a global electronic currency for a long time now. The reason why is easy, just imagine google owned your financial ability, all of it. Finances shut down or eradicated at the push of a button. I sometimes wonder if bitcoin isn't another attempt at it that many seem to be falling for.
How do you know that a year, or five down the road they won't die or develop some kind of brand new thing the government will point to and use to remove any remaining shred of freedom? All while manufacturing their own crisis. Who's to say it isn't genetic warfare? Is anyone getting the shot even knowledgeable enough to know if it were? Have tests been done to confirm it's safe? Of course not.
Man I used to like that show until the one guy who had died just showed up a few episodes later out of the blue and everyone acted like nothing happened.
That and JJ abrams started ruining everything he touched.
That said, there is one plausible way some of the events in Fringe could have gone after I stopped watching that would satisfactorily explain it.
Time travel, or multiple dimensions, and we all know Walter was all about dimensional rift hopping.
