Usually the results maps start with a number of obvious results - mountain states go red, new England blue, etc suggestively filled in. This year, the results maps and the prediction maps are totally separate. Results is starting totally empty.

Disabling post creation for new users for a day or 2 might cut down on spam as it would require them to think ahead. But this is just putting a small delay on spam. Instead, a user should require a certain amount of positive comment karma to post. This requires some effort/community engagement to post. Sure, you can just farm this karma with alt accounts, but it increases the difficulty
If you want to take it a step further, you could be required to 'pay' a certain amount of karma to create each post. You can't just spam unlimited posts without some serious community engagement.
