Good point, but here's how I see it: when the government is the one writing the checks, the government is going to decide what you're going to do. Whoever is in power is going to end up swinging the platform their way, right, left, whoever, yes they might allow conservatives to post their articles but which conservatives are they going to let post it? Will they let the Jack Posobic and Mark Dice conservatives post, or are they going to hire Bill Kristol and S.E. Cupp and say "Hey we let some conservatives post, give us money". And I'd even be opposed to the opposite, say the right gets back in power and so they hire Tim Pool or Jim Webb to be the 'liberal'. In theory what you are proposing works, but in practice it would still be a waste of taxpayer money.
Even if they weren't propaganda we still should not be funding them. The idea of government funded news (I use that term loosely) in general is a bad idea even if they were 100% calling everything down the middle.
