If you can take control of a foreign country's military you take control of the entire country. The only exception being the USA because the citizens are so well armed, but they will try to change that. I have no doubt that key players in our military have been corrupted or otherwise influenced by enemies of America. They would be as high value targets for foreign corruption as any of our senators or congressmen, and we've seen how totally corrupt our house and senate are.
We can have the greatest country in the world or we can have wide open borders.
