I think it’s really positive that Rittenhouse was in Kenosha for a job, decided to stay and help clean the town and obtained the gun from a local friend. This suggests he did not head off with his rifle in search of trouble, but responded at the time to trouble on the ground in the place where he had a legitimate reason to be. Well, politically speaking it isn’t so easy to revoke the support once given. You’re quoting the kid’s lawyer who will tell you he’s Jesus incarnate because that’s the job of a lawyer. All the felons he shot had lawyers that would tell you they’re fine young boys with a good family.

Listen, I am not questioning his right to defend himself or concerned that he had a gun. I am not criticizing anything he did. I don’t like that the attorney general in Wisconsin seems to be rushing a bunch of charges, nor do I like how the media is openly trying to manipulate the public by posting selectively edited portions of the videos and omitting important details in their reporting. I’m just saying we don’t know much about him so I wouldn’t at this point label him my “brother” nor tell people he’s a hero.

EDIT — I’ll reframe what I said above. Thinking more on this I do take issues with certain aspects of his conduct and I do question the quality of his parental supervision. I consider it odd if he took a gun and travelled from his hometown to Kenosha and unless he had a reason for being there armed, it doesn’t look great. It’s not a crime, but it looks like he’s out looking for adventure at a minimum which is not great. Also, I don’t think it reflects very well on his parents if they knowingly allowed their 17-year old son to grab a rifle and head out to police riots off in another state. I don’t think any sane parent would allow their child to do that and by allowing him to go off as he did almost led to his death or serious injury, and has landed him in legal trouble. So that’s also weird. None of these things are crimes, but they are weird and don’t reflect well on him or his family. And where you find some weirdness you tend to find other weirdness.

I don’t disagree with that. But you don’t know anything about his situation. What if his father was the grand arch duke wizard of the local KKK chapter? I’m not saying he is, but if you just endorse the guy and a bad fact crops up later, then you’re owning it.

EDIT — I actually do disagree with what you said. I have not seen any video evidence to make a conclusion about why the first guy was chasing him and threw the mystery object at him. I don’t know what led to that chase. So I can’t conclude he “did nothing” to instigate that chase. Not saying he did anything, but I don’t know.

More information about him and his activities is needed before he can be embraced too openly. From the video provided, he was clearly defending himself. More than that cannot be said.
