That is absolutely incorrect. Censoring is something that is legally allowed by default, because well they own the platform. Sec 230 was meant to make it so as long as they dont editorialize content/moderate it, except for vulgar and illegal content(which is the problem with 230) they are protected from being sued for providing legally problematic content(defamation, threats, ect). The problem is it is too broad and not well defined enough to separate getting rid of, for example, nsfw content on a sfw website vs censoring trump on twitter for what they see as "unsafe content that harms the safety of their users". Not only that there is basically no enforcement of the amount of editorializing sites can do. There needs to be a well defined set of laws that protects internet speech and use PERIOD, in any case. Right now there is no protection and any site can censor whatever they want. Section 230 isnt really a problem, but its the wrong solution to the problem and it is holding back actually good legistation that would solve it. No matter what though the general purpose of 230, keeping sites safe from lawsuits, needs to be kept in place. Although getting rid of it might just push lawmakers to do something.
