But many of these senators have a million dollars or more net worth. Why would you do what you know is not in the national interest if you are already rich...You have enough money to tell everyone to fuck off.

If you have 3 million dollars, do you really need 10 million? Why? Just buy a modest home with a modest vehicle. You don't get happier with more millions if you are already rich.
