Because this is far more contagious. People are spreading the Wuhan flu without even knowing they have it. Its spreading at least twice as fast as h1n1. Swinflu start in Mexico in jan 2009 yet it took 3-4 months to reach the US. The infection and death rate was no higher than seasonal flu. Still people did freak-out there was just far less day to day infections popping up to freak-out about. Stop making me defend the main stream media.
This causes pneumonia in a much greater % than the common cold or even the seasonal flu. The asymptomatic window is at least twice that of the common cold and is far more contagious. This virus, unlike the sniffles, causes in the more severe cases lesions leading to scar tissue which lowers lung capacity permanently. Its not the sniffles. As I said before its not a big deal because all we are really worried about is a spike that over whelms the medical infrastructure. As long as people don't listen to assholes like you we will be fine.
The pneumonia cases didn't need to be cremated because they were not worried about stopping the spread of a novel virus. Also all those death still happen in addition to what they are dealing with now. So yeah the could be over whelmed.
The problem is the asymptomatic spread. The fact that it is airborne, meaning you don't need to cough all you breathe the same air as someone shedding the virus. No it won't kill most but 20% hospitalized rate coupled with asymptomatic airborne spread can be a disastrous when we have no treatment or vaccine. We need people to get infected and get better so we can build an immune population but we don't want it to happen to fast. Sure the media are fear mongering but that doesn't mean this is a fake crisis. If you think that then you are just uninformed and in denial. It not that big of a deal we just need to make sure we slow the infection rate for the next few weeks then we can start to normalize our lives again. Yes people die of all sorts of things all the time and they will continue to, in addition to the deaths from the Chinese virus.
Whats really not surprising is that this is literally caused by communism. The wet markets popped up decades ago because the of the inability of communist china to feed its people.
