While Russian planes and surface ships aren't superior to American, they do have superior tanks, submarines, and better trained soldiers. They also have better overall equipment than U.S. troops, and can actually carry out complex operations without relying on satellite based technology and communications. That is something the U.S. military is completely incapable of doing, and a conventional war would see the negation or destruction of both sides' satellites.
The U.S. surface fleet is also entirely useless since its greatest strength is also its greatest weakness; aircraft carriers are slow moving and vulnerable targets. On top of that, modern Russian air defense systems are fully capable of tracking and targeting U.S. aircraft.
Any war fought away from U.S. soil against the Russians would be a fucking disaster.
