The cost of living here is phenomenal. But the storms are real. Try to rent a house and not an apartment or townhouse. Plenty of nice new homes for rent in the $1,000-1,200 range. Our rent in Denver, 800 sq ft, 2br/2ba was just over 2k. We’re at half that in Yukon in a new 1,700 sq ft, 3br/2ba house w/ a garage. Make sure to get a generator. And just try to stay away from living in the areas that get hit harder with wind. Try to get into a newer area with fiber internet and underground electric, especially if you work from home. When we had that ice storm recently our power was only out for 4 days. Other areas were out for over a week. I’m told 4 days is unusual but we were prepared. Best part is the people and living in a solid red state.
I'm from WV but spent the last 10 years in Denver. My husband and I finally ... FINALLY ... made it to Oklahoma in June. Has been a dream of ours for some time. Landed in Yukon. You couldn't ask for a better state to live in. Solid red. I love Oklahoma. Life is good here.

We had such a great time! It was our first time visiting the Capitol in Oklahoma since moving from (fleeing) Colorado. Couldn’t think of a better way to see it for the first time than a MAGA event!

I gave up on the mask wearing everywhere except Costco.
No one asks me to wear a mask but if they did I would just do it if they asked nicely. I’ve only been confronted once, it was by some big fat man in Home Depot. No one else was wearing a mask except him. And he must have walked past a dozen unmasked men before he singled me out. I told him so. He singled me out as a woman like I’m not going to tell him to go fuck himself? Nah. He looked at me like he never heard a woman say such things. What an asshole.
I couldn’t find it on Google this afternoon. Hell I didn’t even know if it was real or not until I found that Sky News interview. Google search results are horrible now, even for non-political searches. They push far too many “approved” links and don’t even bother burying “wrongthink” - they simply ban it.
Not sure if related ... I had difficulty getting my debit card to read at a bank ATM machine 20 minutes ago. Card is not old or worn. Machine claimed 3 times “Your card cannot be read at this time. Please try again later.” Pressed the cancel button several times without my card in it. Suddenly it asked for my PIN without my card being in the machine. I did not enter my PIN I went to a different machine at a 7-11 instead where it worked fine.

That’s how I got into fish keeping. One day a tank showed up that drunk me bought for sober me. And I was really glad she did. Fish are great. Especially puffers.
