It’s much easier to make and upload content on the competition now. YouTube has increased the barrier to entry for monetization for small creators, so traction is tougher than before. The unpredictable censorship has made it difficult to maintain monetization without the support of a major creator. Even if you somehow avoid all of those pitfalls, third parties can still sink your whole channel by claiming part of the content in your video belongs to them. By the time these issues are resolved, you have lost basically all of the revenue your video made. This does not even consider the cancel culture swines who report you video because they have a raging hate boner for you.
