I've only lived in the north east. Current state is NH. It's a little stupid, but given how much tourism we get for outdoor stuff, for a small state, I get it. There sure as hell wouldn't be any trout left if we didn't close the season and restock a lot of rivers.
NH. Fishing's closed from Oct 16 - Jan 1 to most public waters. I assume so the fish can repopulate. Then certain types of fish have specific seasons, mostly trout because they get way overfished.
