A militia is just a batch of individuals, and there are no selectable usable operational specialties like comm or demolition or armorers. So if the need arises to blow something up, block something, take out armored vehicles, fix weapons, we are down to loose individuals who may or may not be disciplined. That's a recipe for problems. The idea of fighting for freedom seems glamorous but wars are not won by glamour.
