Defendants can demand for a speedy trial if they like. But defendants are often ok with drawing things out if it serves their interests.
Pretty sure Maxwell can demand a speedy trial if she so chooses.
Denying bail is not denying anyone their rights. Denying someone a fair trial, violating their 5th amendment rights, cruel and unusual punishment, those things are violating someone's rights. Denying someone their right to a speedy trial is denying them their rights. There is nothing in the constitution about denying bail being in violation of their rights. Suspension of habeas corpus, keeping someone locked up indefinitely without pressing charges is a violation of their rights, but that is not what is happening at all here.
I love Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul! And yeah, Maxwell would definitely be at no shortage of options for fleeing the country. Hell, she probably wouldn't have to go the dark web route at all. I'm sure our own intelligence agencies would help her out.
I wasn't trying to brag about my education, sorry if I came off that way lol. I actually never finished my poly science degree, I got out of that and went into healthcare. I'd say most political science majors are liberal anyway. Haha. I just remember following that election, hopeful that maybe Obama could be voted out, but the writing was on the wall. It was the first election I was old enough to vote in. I remember wanting old Ron Paul to win the Republican primaries that year, though I was thoroughly entertained by Trump's epic shit talking about Obama around this time.
I registered to vote for the first time in 2016. I knew back in 2012 when I was a 19 year old Political Science student that Mitt Romney and Obama were on the same team. Same with McCain. It really validated my worldview to see this truth come to light for all to see when Trump ran for office in 2016. I remember thinking in 2012 that Romney had no enthusiasm or charisma, and that he and the Republican party were part of a establishment uniparty. I remember thinking that McCain and Romney were not fighters, they back down and apologize too much. I remember thinking that that Donald Trump guy from Celebrity Apprentice who trolled Obama into releasing his birth certificate was a real fighter, and that we needed someone like him to champion our cause in a presidential election. Even then; however, I was too cynical, and didn't think Mr Trump was the real deal. When Trump ran for office, I was blown away by the things he said. He was literally calling out the New World Order to their faces. Republicans were trying to rig the primaries so Trump couldn't win. Trump gave me a CHOICE between globalism and nationalism for the first time in my life. I could have cried. The rest is history. I did my part. If you haven't voted before, please do. I'm certain it's because of people like me, who never voted before, that we have Trump in the White House today. There are still more people out there who can make a difference today. Get out there! We may NEVER have another President like this in our lifetimes. Will we let Trump become a one term President, a blip in history? Or will we give him 4 more years and make Trump go down as one of the greats like George Washington, Andrew Jackson, etc? We need the Supreme Court so our children and grandchildren can grow up with the same freedoms we enjoy today.
Holy crap, I didn't realize how many fake Republicans were on r/Conservative until I looked at the Roger Stone thread today and saw a bunch of people saying that Trump is stupid and Stone deserves to rot in prison. I told them no real conservatives should want to see Stone in prison for the crime of supporting Donald Trump, and got threatening messages from their moderators. The Russia hoax is a huge disgrace, and no real life conservative that I've spoken to thinks Stone should stay in prison. Who are these people? Contrarions trying to fit in with centrists and liberals? NeverTrumpers? Spineless morons? I don't get it. Today is a good day.
Thanks! I'll definitely give this a watch.
James Madison, one of our founding fathers, actually was the defense attorney for the Redcoats during the Boston Massacre trial and got all but one of them off. The point was to give them a fair trial and show Britain how it should be done.
