A moment of silence for meebo.com chat webpage that was bought by google and then shut down right away.
It was a webpage where you could chat with everybody else on different communication platforms (skype, ICQ, jabber, etc.). Back then, each platform had their own pros and cons and they were incompatible with each other. Meebo was a hopeful step to unify all chat platforms using a simple interface. You did not need to install multiple chat programs to talk with different people, you just needed one.
But it was too dangerous to big tech. Too much freedom. Too much unity. Each big tech company wanted to make things their own way, exploit the users their own way. First, they restricted access to some platforms, I think Skype was the first. No big deal, you could still use meebo to chat on other platforms. But for them, it was not enough. So they bought it and killed it, and the meebo team was used to work on Google+ (which failed miserably) and later on their current Hangouts chat client.
There was a similar webpage, imo.im, which did similar things as meebo, but it later dropped support for other platforms and became a single closed platform on its own.
Nowadays, we have facebook messenger, skype, hangouts, discord, tiktok, snapchat, instagram, whatsapp, viber, telegram, signal, wechat,...

I don't know how it works because I am not from the US, but it seems weird to me that you only can vote in a single voting station. What if that station has a problem like broken voting machines or rioters outside?
