On May 22, 2018, David Shafer received 48.9% of the vote in the Republican primary with Duncan coming in second place with 26.6%. Since no candidate received a majority of votes, the election then went to a runoff held on July 24.[9] The runoff election focused largely on Shafer's record at the capitol and a number of ethical questions surrounding his candidacy.[10] On July 24, Duncan defeated Shafer[11] with 50.16% of the vote. He defeated Democratic nominee Sarah Riggs Amico in the general election, receiving nearly 52% of the vote and avoiding another runoff.[12]
Duncan was inaugurated lieutenant governor on January 14, 2019.[13] On December 6, 2020, Duncan and Governor Brian Kemp put out a joint statement explaining that calling a joint session of the Georgia General Assembly to appoint their own electors to send to the United States Electoral College would be unconstitutional.[14]
In GA we are getting pounded by calls, texts emails and door knocks to vote for senate runoffs. Of course we are going to vote the Trump ticket if GEOTUS asks.
But...the people on the ticket are acting like Hidin’ Biden which is helping to reinforce the perception we have swamp creatures representing us. Kelly L is especially suspect with the way she got slid in by Kemp on a out of cycle resignation opportunity.
Neither candidate showed up to the Alpharetta rally which was pretty much home turf for them. It’s pissing me off that I’m getting taken advantage of. This is the moment that we finally drain the swamp but we’re being asked to put swamp critters back in.
We will vote in January but the fix is still in and we have some more swamp gas to light on fire after 2020. Deal?
Hopefully, we bust the corrupt people and get a clean special election again next year on made in USA equipment.
