That said, even if police brutality isn’t a “real” problem according to statistics, it is still a real problem that has to be solved when a community feels that anger/fear towards the police.
You shouldn’t say it deserves a murder charge. I haven’t seen the officers body cam video, and haven’t heard one line from the “ other side of the story”, so I don’t know yet.
It 100% deserves a murder investigation, and from the limited information I have, it looks at least like negligent homicide, but I don’t know.

They were well within pistol range to hit residential/commercial areas. I guess they thought a golf cart could outrun a 3 legged deer. They were wrong, but still had shots fired. They didn't get a rifle, they decided to do a deer drive-by hit in a golf cart.

If a police officer is chasing someone that committed a felony, and they run into a house, the officer is allowed to immediately go in and get him. It is pretty limited.
Game wardens use the same “logic” to say “Well, those publicly owned deer might have gone across your property, so as game warden, I can enter and check.
People claim the police are on power trips, but that has never been my experience. I think after you’ve arrested hundreds of people for crimes, a cop won’t get excited about giving out tickets.

The other officer “agreeing to testify” is not how law works. If you are called as a witness, you have to testify and answer truthfully. There isn’t a choice. If you don’t, it is contempt of court.

The law is usually that the animals themselves are owned by the public, and just because they’re on your private land doesn’t mean you can hunt them out of season, etc.
But anyone subsistence farming isn’t going to get caught.
Hunting laws are usually very based. You can’t use an 5.56 AR15 because of animal cruelty, but you can use an AR10/7.62, or a AR15 chambered for .300 blackout.

Hunting outside of season or with an illegal to hunt with weapon can get your gun confiscated and a major fine and a multi year / lifetime hunting ban.
The rules are usually around wildlife protection and safety of others. For example, in most states you can’t hunt with 223 or 556 because it is too small a caliber to kill an animal or prevent it running away if hit, to die later of internal injury.
