Only the approved science of the settled kind, obviously. If 97% don't agree, then it's all just conspiracy theory.

That's respectable and commendable. If your aim is ultimately to help people out - in this world and in what you perceive will be the next - good on you. It sounds like you want good things for people and that you're probably a pretty good guy (or gal? I don't know).

I really just don't buy the whole concept of Christianity as a whole. Maybe I was too old before getting introduced to it, but conceptually, it all sounds far-fetched and a bit ridiculous now that I've taken a step back. Especially after being so deep in to the Mormon church and being indoctrinated in to it, then seeing the curtain pulled back and exposed for the fraud that it is - I'll never look at any of it the same.

Take care, and have a great one.

Where did I say that "evil" ends justify good means? You keep bringing that up, and you keep attributing that to my world view - why would you think that I - just because I don't subscribe to the idea of an all powerful creator, a messiah, nor the accuracy of ancient writings that have been passed through millenia of translations and arrangements - will behave one way or another without knowing anything about me in particular?

Again, you're painting with a pretty broad brush.

You can make assumptions about me and paint atheists with a broad brush all you want. I could do the same thing on comparing all Christians to Catholic priests who like diddling little boys - at least there's empirical evidence to support my assumption (though I'd never actually do so because most of the people in my life are Christians, and they're great people).

I was a Christian for years. Then I came to my senses. You can't tell me what I do and don't understand. You can't begin to tell me how what's led me down this path and to this conclusion is wrong.

This statement that you've made reminds me of a talk I heard from a Bishop when I was younger about how followers of Christ project themselves in to the world. One type is truly a fisher of men. He seeks to bring more in and connect with people. The other type is the cleaner is the aquarium. These are the types who place people in to separate groups and make deterministic statements about people they don't know.

Which are you?

That's a very general question, "Do the ends justify the means?"

How could it not be circumstantial? If you yourself claim to be morally objective, then either you take the bible 100% literally, or you're lying to yourself. If you're not taking the bible - which is, after all, a collection of smaller books and scrolls cherry-picked by men of the early church - literally, then you're making your own determinations on what's moral or leaving that decision up to a church - again, a human being - to tell you what's moral.

Unless you stone adulterers and homosexuals, beat your slaves with a thumb-span rod, truly keep the sabbath holy by doing no work at all on Sundays (or is it Saturdays?), pay a full tithe, and make sure to burn the proper offerings, then no, you're not taking the bible literally. You've made assumptions about it like, "Oh, but slavery is bad, we just can't do that!" and "Well, Jesus came, so I don't have to do the old sacrifice stuff anymore, even though Jesus said he didn't do away with the old law... we'll just tuck that verse away." You've made decisions - good decisions, as it turns out - to make modifications to your "objective" principles in order to fall in line with modern life.

My principles are rock solid simple. I live a good and honest life as a result. Your claim that I'm "spinning madly" made me laugh out loud - you don't know me.

That's a shame, but she's gotta do what's good for her and her family. If she reconsiders, she'll have a storm of support.
