The way I understood it, the President of NASCAR told Bubba about the incident and reported it. Bubba never actually saw the knot hanging as NASCAR execs had it removed and just told him it was there.

There was an interview with Bubba where he described the matter. He was told it was a racial attack, and he reacted accordingly.

I don't fault the guy. The NASCAR execs who wanted to be seen as woke are the ones to blame for how this incident was blown out of proportion.

The unquestioned subservience to the last wish is right out of Judge Dredd. I am tempted to be OK with it if we are officially allowed to change all references of Ginsburg to Dredd.

In all honesty, I worry this process is a no win for President Trump. He has to wait for the funeral in order to be respectful, and these days the funeral shows last a long time. If George Floyd could get three public funerals, who knows how many will be had for something worthy of a State funeral. This will likely be intentionally dragged out so that it gets closer and closer to the election.

I can only see one way to avoid the turmoil and come out on top here. President Trump should publicly invite Joe Biden to the White House to consult with him one-on-one on the new nominee. He can call for unity in the time of strife and suggest that only the two of them together can "heal the divides of this Great Nation".

There is ZERO chance Biden will accept the offer. He cannot function for hours in thought and discussion. He will be forced to decline, either admitting he is unable to handle it or by attacking President Trump. He will try and send Kamala Harris as a surrogate, and President Trump can say he knows Biden has experience crossing the aisle to put America first and that is not the case with Harris.

Then, regardless, when President Trump releases his nominee he cannot be attacked again for trying to divide. He removes the biggest reason to delay, how much it will tear the nation apart, and could have an easier confirmation process.
