Here is South Carolina’s succession document. It spells out their reasoning very well. Aside from the racist parts, there are some statements all conservatives can get behind. It also clearly spells put the history of grievances that led to their decision.

Unfortunately history is an inconvenient PIA. The south would never have ratified the constitution without slavery, they may not habe even joined the war. Southern states loyal to Britain (Tories) would have doomed the revolution. The CW was Probably destined from the start.
