It can happen. When my mom was 37, she had my youngest brother. She did testing (this was in 1990) and they told her that he was going to have Downs and that she'd probably miscarry. Dad wanted her to end it, but she went ahead because she'd lost 2 and wanted the baby no matter what. He was born with the soft spot on his head still open and he has a few permanent teeth that never came in. Otherwise, he's perfectly fine. He's the tallest and arguably the most intelligent of all our siblings.
