Because we don't want to get to the point where we are overwhelmed. Especially in high populated areas. Obviously rural counties don't need to be as cautious because they are already distanced. But this virus spreads very fast and covid floors in hospitals in big cities are filling up. This causes a ripple effect. Not sure why you wouldn't want to slow the spread. Especially when wearing a piece of cloth on your face when ina public setting in doors would help. Doesn't seem like a big deal.
Herd immunity is not a great strategy as it gives the virus more chances to mutate to a new form that we won't have a vaccine for. It should be obvious that we want to slow it down and eradicate it instead of saying fuck it and letting it spread unabated.
Slowing the spread of covid is important so that hospitals are not overwhelmed and there are enough ventilators/treatment options for those that become dependent on them... was that not obvious? Wtf did you think the quarantine was for?
I'm not sure why so many people on here are against wearing a mask. They are effective at keeping those that have a sickness (bacterial or viral) from spreading through droplet contact. It doesn't help the person wearing it typically because people are stupid and touch their face a lot. But if everyone in that vicinity is wearing a mask the droplets should never leave the mask to begin with.. idk why this has become a political problem. I work at a hospital and treat covid patients routinely so I try to be a little more careful since I have a lot of exposure but also it just seems like common sense, something I felt like this crew had a lot of.
