Since when I was little, I could not fathom not having a gun for protection. Being small, 90lbs, 5’ for most of my life- many kids were bigger than me. I guess that is where my fear of not having a gun stems. I have never had to use it, thank God, but a lot of that is just because others know you have it and are trained.
I have a very close friend who’s husband is a pastor. They lived in the parsonage/rectory, which was in a terrible area. They were robbed over, and over, and over again. Never once did they recover anything and never once did the police do anything but take a cursory report.
They also have a daughter.
It was, and still is- beyond my understanding that they would not have protected their family and home. I know that would probably insult them, or cause hurt to their feelings- but it is just how I feel. I cannot imagine living like that. I could not live like that.. It physically pained me to see them live like that.
They did finally move, way out- into a much better area, and I am thankful for that. But it is beyond my comprehension to choose to, or not be allowed to in cases of bans- protect your family. Even if you are a pastor.
(And most of the other pastors I have known always allowed their LEO members to carry in church. I am sure these days, they allow and even recruit not only their LEO members, but CCP holders, as well, bc people are stupid and violent as hell.)

I have a kid there. Went to help help move. They wanted to break about 3 laws... I was aghast. They tried over and over over and over to explain that the laws just aren’t enforced there. (But holy damn it’s friggin beautiful at night- like you’re in a sci-fi movie.... there really is just no explaining it.) Anyway- everything there smells like skunk weed. Even the open air in nice places. Like how you can smell piss before you get to New Orleans, ...... you can smell the dope of Atlanta just about the time you see the skyscrapers, & that is not an exaggeration
Anyway- they weren’t kidding about the laws. Traffic laws, pedestrian laws, weed and alcohol laws, basic theft, etc. and this was a very nice area, I cannot stress that enough. Neighborhoods with 4-6k sq foot homes everywhere, people walking their kids, their dogs, exercising, etc.
It just really blew my mind. My poor kid kept asking me over and over if I was okay. (I was, I was just super amused)
The apartment building reekedof marijuana way worse the open air, and police officers and sheriff deputies lived there- constantly coming and going. My kid couldn’t take their eyes off me trying to gauge my reaction they were so worried
Everyone was still very southern and nice, just the person holding the door open for you is a 6’1” black dude in a dress and lipstick, doing their damnedness to act feminine, and very nervous re if you’re buying it or not. (And that’s not a hypothetical.... that really happened.)
This was my most recent experience with Atlanta. I had been there years and years ago, but lemme tell you it is way different now

This was my first gun, and I’m a girl. My dad shot a hole in the living room wall (showing me how to use it, I guess, lol). I was probably 9 or 10 and it was a Christmas present. He just shook his head and said “damn”. And believe it or not, he was really great and careful with guns. But he was also a Vietnam vet and sometimes his hand actions outpaced what his mind was thinking, I guess. (He definitely knew no one was in his line of fire.)
