Tails is good but it doesn't have persistence - meaning any changes that you made or anything that you saved will be lost when you reboot. So it's not great for an everyday driver.

For an everyday driver I'd use Linux Mint. For one off projects / travelling / something of high security I'd choose Tails.

Linux Mint ( linuxmint.com ) is a great alt to Microsoft and Apple.
