Abbott was extremely popular at the time and Cruz really wasn't, so it was just republicans who hated Cruz that switched sides (and this was before Beta exposed himself so openly) that nearly caused Cruz to lose and Abbott to do your typical landslide.
I'm not sure Abbott could win another double digit win like that again with how unpopular even things like allowing mask mandates on a county level have been, but other than that he's been alright lately so I'm sure he'll still win re-election.

Mail in voting doesn't matter in a state like FL because DeSantis did the right thing when he got elected, he fucked the shit out of broward county's election board and removed the problematic parts.
Dade county shifted hard as fuck to the right this year and they had lots of mail in voting. FL is also a state that's historically always used mail in voting quite a bit.

In my experience, actual combat veterans tend to be less upfront about what they did, I’d imagine it’s partially due to not wanting as much attention and they don’t want to be reminded as much about some of the things they’ve had to do.
