Just in case one thinks this is an over-reaction, the lasers the "protestors" are/could be using aren't your average at-or-below-maximum-legal-output-power lasers. The maximum legal output for a laser pointer in the US is 5mW. Alibaba sells lasers many times that powerful for cheap. These people are/could be literally trying to blind police/you.
You'll notice they are using almost exclusively green lasers. Check out the flash-blindness distances on the 2W green pointer that this industry site warns about.
