It takes a lot of courage not only to suffer possible rejection, BUT on top of that, we have to also risk the very real consequences of us getting fired, blacklisted, and even charged and arrested because we dared be a little bit manly.

Pick an easy to read Bible. I would advise the NIV. All Bibles have some serious translation problems (yes even the KJV). If you are a newbie though, you don't want to worry about that. You want something you can pick up and read easily. So I'd get the NIV, and then start reading the New Testament, particularly the Gospels.
