She is, her husband's last name is Gilmartin. I'm going to be charitable and assume she still uses her maiden name for professional reasons because it was the name that made her famous before she got married in 2017.
Don't get optimistic. A lot of people in California understood the proposition and were in full support of the gas tax. My brother was one of them. He bought into the propaganda that the revenue from the gas tax was being spent on improving the freeways.
I understand that. My paternal grandfather fought against the Japanese invasion on the Chinese coast, while my maternal grandfather was enslaved to work in a mine in Surabaya, Indonesia.
But the repeated inculcation of hate among the millennial/Gen Z population is not going to lead to anything good. Have you noticed that among all the countries Japan shit on during WWII, only three of them still harbor this intense level of hate:
-
China
-
North Korea
-
South Korea
Everyone else has let it go and moved on: Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, Palau, Kiribati, the Solomon Islands, etc. Several of these places suffered horrific atrocities too like the Bataan Death March.
China and the Koreas continue to stoke anti-Japan hate as a government-sponsored weapon. In China it wasn't even this bad in the 1980s and early 90s when there were many more living witnesses to WWII back then.
(The Koreas are a more complicated subject since the anti-Japanese sentiment predates WWII and finds its roots from 1895 when Japan literally colonized the Korean Peninsula after winning the First Sino-Japanese War, and made a strong effort for the next 50 years to wipe out Korean language and culture)
These ideological blinkers are infuriating. I knew plenty of them in college.
"BUT I HAVE A $15 MINIMUM WAGE. THE POOR CHINESE PEASANT IS BETTER OFF MAKING $2 AN HOUR IN A SWEATSHOP WITH FREE TRADE INSTEAD OF DYING IN A FIELD FROM STARVATION."
That was their logic.
My parents thought Jiang Zemin was a nice, harmless old man.
That disgusting fuck was responsible for the intense anti-Japanese hatred you see across young people in China today when he introduced his "patriotic education" program deployed across all Chinese schools in the 1990s
I recall Jackie Chan had two mansions seized by the Party roughly two months ago. Apparently , despite all the barking he's done for the CCP over the past 20 years, he hitched his wagon to the wrong faction this time around and pissed off some powerful people.
I saw this in an anime 6 years ago. Psycho-Pass New Edit where they talk about the importance of printed books, the easy editing of digital data, and the manipulation of historical knowledge to support a predetermined narrative for the powers that be.

This is where Western libertarians will never ever see eye to eye with the East.
Even the most hardcore freedom loving Orientals will turn away from the legalization of drugs, the whole continent remembers the legacy of the Opium Wars.
My brother hates communism but he loves socialism. I think he's beyond hope.
