Yea, fire pumps should be still good unless divers in an area. You'd still be able to get water to the area. They being able to handle aircraft and LCACs, should have AFFF sprinklers and deck nozzles in that area. Just a lot variables in play.
It said it was in the well-deck, that can mean just about anything. Hope everything gets under control.
I'm just not familiar with the well-deck area on an LHD. My time was all on a Destroyer.
They can launch helicopters and vertical takeoff planes like Harriers. They definitely have fire teams inside the well-deck and the surrounding areas. The cooling of the hull is probably from other ship's crews and local Fire Depts on the pier. They could have a magazine or some other flammable space adjacent to the fire.
That was my first thought as a former Fire Marshal on-board a Destroyer. You've got backup all over, and like you said two whole duty sections.
