Yo i get it. Its hard to budget and plan on an unknown wage. But if youre not comfortable with the risk, then dont go. Get an hourly or whatever and get by. "Subhuman wages" barely even servers at chilis making $80-120, a shift. This covid shit has places in a spin, i do feel sorry, but i was there once. No one can get rich serving tables. Just like a min wage job was never meant ro sustain a family of four. High school and college kids for drinking money, learn job and people skills, discover what attributes you can provide to society. Lifers who want to do the bare minimum will get and stay in min wage jobs.
I served tables for 6 years, good money, alot to hide under the table. But my tip was directly related to my service. Yea and sometimes i would get jipped, but you never exactly knew who was going to throw down a black card and give something extra on top. Point is, an hourly server isnt expecting anything more than what is expected, but someone who is actually trying to be helpful, because they want a bigger carrot.
As far as other business carrots, i.e. performance bonuses, raises, perks. Alot of it is work ethics and desires to succeed. Seving is not meant to be a career. Not everyone have those feelings. Some just to loaf and coast.
