Manjaro is good, even great. I had a hard drive failure and switched to Mint, would recommend them both but prefer Mint these days. I switched to KDE plasma after fucking around with Manjaro tho, it's a great and completely maleable desktop environment.
Go with Linux Mint, it's an Ubuntu port with spyish features like Snap apps removed and it's better. Canonical (Ubuntu peeps) are a bit suspect these days. Mint was a piece of cake (Linux is a still a whole new OS with a learning curve) and they are all freaking free, 100's of flavours of open source goodness.
Amateurs. Android 4.4.3. Will not update until a Linux phone with good battery life, that is affordable and not made in china arrives. I know about https vulnerabilities in this OS and use it as (holy fuck) just a phone. It's too old to do 3 party OS and maintain bluetooth functionality etc so I wait. I want KDE plasma and Manjaro or similar and everything else can fuck off till then.

This! Even if not a total beginner. I have tried Ubuntu, Debian, Manjaro, Mint as well as Raspbian on a Pi and I consider Mint to be the best I have used.

I started on Ubuntu, it's a good place to start in the Linux world but I would recommend linux mint which is based on Ubuntu but much better. It is just as easy to install (easier if you acknowledge it's one press install all codecs button).It has the spywareish snap apps functionality removed and the team even has a version based of Debian incase Ubuntu fucks them over. Canonical is not to be trusted anymore.
