For 2 I just remember there being 'blocking detachments' for soviet soldiers to prevent retreat, not sure if they were shot or not though.

it's mostly just get shelled by russias for 3 days straight and then be overrun after you've already lost 40% of your unit

from what I've been told the ukrainian army is just conscripts at this point and most of their regulars and veterans are dead which means they really can't do anything but defend
