The anonymous ballot was meant to prevent selling votes, retribution for particular votes, etc. Unfortunately it also means the people who count the votes can make up whatever result they want.

In 2016 they expected an easy win. They prepared for low-key cheating.

In 2020 they know who they're fighting.

This is only true if you want a fair election.

Scott Adams points out - they don't have to debunk it. They just have to keep it from 50% of the population. And judging by articles and comments on Ars Technica, this is being dismissed as hard as humanly possible.

The article says: " to suppress an apparent attempt at blatant disinformation being spread three weeks before the election."

A comment on the dry boring policy change at Twitter: "the FBI already warned the White House that Giuliani was likely being used by Russia to spread disinformation. "

I remember when companies were in the business of making stuff people wanted so people would buy it. Those were good times.

The early internet had killfiles. Even many BBSs had killfiles.

The important difference: you, an individual, put someone on a killfile. People were free to speak. You didn't have to listen to them. That's free speech.

I thought this only applied to contractors and companies. (?)

If it applies to Universities, that's important for me. We have mandated updated Diversity Training due late October. It sounds like I'll have to choke it down anyway.

1973: was almost FIFTY YEARS ago. They should find more recent examples.

If it helps, the angry and inappropriate response posts reflect badly on the people who made them.

The faults of our brothers, we write upon the sands, their virtues on tablets of love and memory.

— Elks motto

You're not wrong, but a too-brief statement from POTUS would be perceived as a snub. And any public criticism of the recently deceased is tacky for multiple reasons.* As usual, Trump is doing it 100% right.

(*) We're free to think what we like personally, of course.

If you can, hang tight until after the election. I predict much of the COVID panic will subside after the election is over. (The election will cause panics of its own, but that's a separate issue.)

You're not wrong. But the government forcibly shuttered large chunks of the economy. It is . . . equitable? reasonable? consistent? . . . for government to keep people from starving on the streets because of its actions.

If it were up to me, we'd just open the f***ing economy back up. But until that happens . . .

Rightfully so. It will be decades before he can go out on the street, or into a job interview, and not be immediately recognized based on media coverage. It's difficult to process just how much bias will be against him for the rest of his life.

Being set for life - VERY set for life - is 100% justified in this case.

YES. It's called punitive damages.

Each company paying out $1 million each? That's chump change to them. $500M? That's enough to notice.

What's extra crazy - they still won't support Trump. Not even to make money.

Our local community college holds occasional all-staff meetings to discuss the college's response to COVID, shutdowns, how instruction will happen, etc.

The election came up in the second meeting.

There may have been some justification for the initial short shutdown to produce PPEs and ventilators. At this point, anything less than "open for business" is about the election.

It's by design. Liberals and democrats were seething about the booming Trump economy. COVID-19 gave them a chance to stop it. They hit brakes as hard as possible!
