I like it as a cultural symbol for myself because all my ancestors fought for the confederacy, but you wouldn't think of that by looking at me, or talking to me. I'm not into public displays of it at all, except say at reenactments or something. However we are the right, and people can do what they want to within reason. We understand that it doesn't really reflect on everyone else in the million person crowd if a couple of people fly the confederate flag. I remember back when occupy wall street was strong it was a hodgepodge of various messages and signage. From anti-war to bank accountability and wealth inequality. At some point the emerging leadership became convinced that being all over the place was a point of weakness. They cracked down progressively harder on the signs variety and decided to settle on the message of income inequality. Started to organize and regulate everything. I had been observing their progression over the months walking around town. I decided to stop and warn them of this trend and that it would destroy the movement. They listened politely, but paid no heed because I was just a young looking kid. Less than a month later they were done. Goose cooked.
Yeah, for sure. I did see one or two people on video flinging fire extinguishers and such, but most of what I saw was people helping Police officers back to their feet if they ended up getting knocked down by the surge of the crowd.
