Stalin called Trotsky a fascist. Mussolini was a communist and Marxist before creating his "third way". Nazis and Soviets collaborates for a good while pre-1939. All of the early British fascists, Oswald Mosely for example, were connected to the Labour party and the Fabian Society. Many of the Nazi SA were incredibly left wing, hence the Night of the Long Knives. Undoubtedly there are some ideological differences between fascism and the Marxists, but their ultimate goal is big brother and destruction of the individual.
