There are many ways you can be targeted by the government and prevented from spending your money in that wallet.
Key point is that every transaction is recorded. From, to, amount. Everyone sees it. They identify you? They can put pressure on anyone that transacts with you.
That's an illusion. You can keep your private key offline like putting your password on paper. You aren't actually storing anything offline. You're storing access to something that is copied on everyone else's devices.
You can get sucked in by the technical aspects of how the blockchain works, how the ledger works, how new chunks of transactions get registered. You have been sold on how secure and decentralized it is. You have been sold on how the government has no control over it, banks have no control over it. When have you EVER known either of those entities to sit back and relinquish control?
Every single transaction you make is recorded publicly. Obfuscation is already under legal attack, you have to identify yourself "to help prevent the funding of terrorism." Any exchanges that want to play ball have to get identification, delist problematic currencies.
"Buhbuhbut if businesses accept crypto as payment" then they get blacklisted by whatever the government has adopted as the banker's preferred legal crypto? They get their business license revoked? They get jailed for tax evasion? Same things can happen to exchanges.
Security on the decentralized currencies is predicated on the majority of miners agreeing that the transactions processed as instructed. "It would be impossible for one group to operate more nodes than are already running naturally" would it? Would the central banks not consider it worth their massive investment to seize control of a problematic currency, even just long enough to destroy public trust in it?
The government doesn't have to reduce the number in your wallet to take your money. They can make it worthless simply by flagging it and creating a big enough threat to anyone else for transacting with it.
You do yourself a disservice in assuming you are the smartest person at the table. Don't be disrespectful to others just because they disagree with you and have something different to say. You sound like a damn liberal.
I think you're being sold snake oil.
Crypto has some great benefits in generating wealth for an individual in a mid term, but mass adoption and moving to crypto as the primary form of currency is a banker's and the government's wet dream.
Think it's more along the lines of disagreeing but still respecting because he tends to do the right thing in particular when it matters. I think people believe he truly votes his conscious and it's not some act he's playing to conveniently side with the enemy when it counts like Romney and McCain do/did every single time.
Thanks much
