Haha. At the risk of sounding like a massive douche, I do have a very refined palate lol, but I never knew that cheese + seafood was considered a no-no (so I'm glad to hear I instinctively have always known it haha). My "refined palate," however, is nothing special — just comes from growing up in a very "foodie" area w/ amazing restaurants, and in an Italian family with amazzzzzziiinnnng cooks (my mom, grandmother, all my aunts, etc), so I was served basically gourmet meals every day growing up haha. And since it was a "foodie," and heavy Italian area, almost all my friends grew up similarly, so eating at friends' houses as a kid was always great, too. My circle of friends loved coming to either my house, or one other friend in this groups house, because our mothers cooking was so amazing (it became a debate as to who was better amongst our friends lol. We were all in a band growing up, too, so his and my house became the "practice spaces" solely based on the fact that our mother's made all of us great food haha).

It wasn't until I moved to NH that I learned how lucky I was growing up. My god, the food here is soooo bad, and nobody here cares or is even aware. My poor fiancee, didn't know what real/good food was until she met me. I feel bad that she missed out on that her whole life haha, but at least now she's starting to get it, and even becoming a pretty good cook herself (every time she cooks, she always says "I'm so sorry if it's not good," and it's always good; and she's always so proud that she sends pictures to my mom. My mom loves it and I think it's super cute)

So many people hate on Italian tuna and I never understood why. I'm always like "you realize it's the exact same thing in the can, right? Only difference is one sits in water, the other sits in olive oil [which is hardly gross]?"

100%. Even for hobbies that most of us will never make a career out of (unless we're literally in the top like, .001%) this rings true. For instance, I was HUGE into sports growing up. And while I'm fairly athletic, as a small (5'6ish, 135ish lbs) guy, I was never going to be able to make a living/go pro with any of them. I wanted to, of course, and always dreamed of being a Yankee, but even at around 13 realized that was never going to happen. But on the flipside, around 12 or so, I was gifted a guitar by my dad (as I was always HUGE into music and had expressed wanting to play), and within a day or two, I had taught myself enough to be playing chords and a few songs. It came naturally to me, and so, even at ~13, I focused on that, and I'm glad I did. It was something I had a knack for. It was actually something I could have made it with and made a career out of, but... for a successful band, a lot of other variables are needed, and to make it a career, it's either as a studio musician or teacher which weren't really for me. I managed to get into Berklee but didn't go b/c of tuition costs and unliklihood of making a career out of it anyway, but... it was still the wise choice. To this day, I still play guitar, and continue getting better. I jam with childhood friends, I jam with others and do open-mics, I make my own recordings, etc, and just have a general great time with it. But, what would I be doing if I focused that on baseball instead? It's not like I'd be playing baseball regularly or doing much of anything with it (for hobby or for career).

They're all great! And nothing beats a cheap, and quick/easy to make lunch (or dinner, or w/e).

I also make extra dough anytime I make dough for bread or pizza, and I'll save some to make a pan of thin... basically breadsticks. Use to dip in marinara or pasta sauce/gravy, which I often have leftover/frozen (lets not start this debate - I'm Italian, I've heard it enough lol)

Yes yes yes! Can't believe I forgot that it needs some kind of lemon flavoring in it, though I usually do some lemon juice. Although, in recent years, I've dropped the lemon juice and actually been using pickle juice instead (or when I make it in the food processor, I just add some dill pickles and a little extra juice in). Bacon on the sandwich is also great (obvi)

Haha, fair enough

(Eric Clapton, early in his career, was in the band "Cream." I like cream with my coffee. And I like Cream with Eric Clapton)

I_Used_to_be_me 8 points ago +8 / -0

Add bacon!

So many great ways to make it. Only way I HATE it is any form of tuna melt. Idk why, but something about melty cheese, and tuna salad being warm, is just nasty to me

I like my coffee like I like Eric Clapton... (with Cream).

...not sure why your comment reminded me of this... something I occasionally say, and has confused every barista except for one lol

Haha, maybe I'll try it sometime, but honestly, I don't really like shrimp all that much to be honest. I have thrown some bits of chicken or beef in it (otherwise the same recipe), though, usually if I have it leftover from an earlier day's dinner.

Can also go the jail-ramen route and throw some peanut butter in. It's actually not bad, and makes it more of a Thai-style ramen - though I rarely do it/not the biggest Thai/peanut in asian-type food fan

I_Used_to_be_me 12 points ago +12 / -0

Hmm... maybe I'll try it. It's weird, because I actually hate fish, and yet still like tuna (as you note, one of the fishier kinds). I know, doesn't make sense, but just how I've always been. Only fish I really eat is tuna sandwiches (or on crackers), or I'll occasionally eat like, fish n chips or breaded cod/haddock (basically not fried fish n chips). Other than that, I hate fish, and only other seafood I'll eat isn't really seafood, per say (I'm from RI, so big things there are: clam chowder, "stuffies" (or "stuffed quahogs," which is really more just bread stuffing with some clam/quahog in it), or clam cakes (which is really just fried dough w/ some bits of clams in it), so as you'll see, it's all clam stuff that basically has barely any clam in it. I don't even like clams all that much unless in these dishes lol)

I don't think anything can or ever will beat either of these:

  1. Grilled cheese and tomato soup, or
  2. Dressed up ramen noodles (for me, I do the ramen, spice pack, put in some soy and sriracha sauce [or soy + w/e other kind of asian type sauce I have or want at the time), and then throw in some frozen mixed veggies, and crack an egg in it.

Best <$2 meals ever

edit - I'm also a huge tuna fan — I know, many hate it. But I love tuna sandwiches, but when I'm in a hurry, I love a can of Italian tuna (tuna in olive oil instead of water — still drain most of the oil just as you'd drain the water, though) and ritz crackers. Sometimes I'll make actual tuna (you know, regular tuna, mayo, and I usually add a little mustard and celery salt. Edit - OH! and forgot, the key is it needs either: pickle juice, juice from like... banana peppers/pepperoncini, or some lemon juice. Pickle is the best of the 3 though) to scoop on crackers, but, for less work, italian tuna on Ritz works great and doesn't need anything added

lmao, when I returned to school in my mid twenties, I started at community college for a year before transferring, and in one class, there was this super awkward girl in class. She's just out of high school, and I was like 25, which is a fairly big difference, especially given I'd been through a lot by that point in my life. Anyway, somewhere around mid semester, there was some kind of class activity where we all were kind of forced to interact one on one with each other, so I was talking to her. Again, super awkward, which is fine, but I remember her first words to me, * first * thing she asks me, is something like "Hey! So, are you into cosplay?" If I had coffee, I'd have spit it out. And I'm still pretty sure I blurted out a laugh and was like "no, but please tell me more." Nice enough girl, but actually kind of felt sorry for her, and I think it was in that moment that I realized what schools, society, culture, etc, was doing to our youth. Ended up spending the rest of the class just talking to one student who was similar in age to me, a military vet, etc, and just kind of joking about the younger students and being confused af as to why they were all so weird

Seriously. I'm of an age where the "participation trophy," kind of got big during my childhood, so I remember the "before and after," years while growing up. And I remember the specific moment, probably around age 11, that it first came about in my life. I was literally on the worst baseball team in the league that year, lost almost every game. Whatever, took it like a champ, and was still the captain of that team, always worked hard, and continued at it even when it became obvious our team sucked. The year before, we came in 2nd, and the top 2 teams always got trophies, and nobody else. So that was still in my mind. But this year, at the banquet the league always held after the season, I remember getting called up and given some plaque. I was confused. At first I thought maybe it was some kind of award for being good, even though our team sucked. I'm walking back to the table reading it, and it basically just had my name, team's name, and the year on it. I was still confused. I sit down next to my dad, and he basically explains to me that it's a meaningless plaque that everyone's getting, that basically just says you played baseball this year. I was confused then, and I'm still confused now. I remember chucking it in the trash on our way out of the banquet lol, and the following year our team was state champs; still have that trophy, jacket, team photos, etc.

tl;dr — no, not everyone is special, participation trophies are meaningless and psychologically damaging, and while no one is special, we all have things we're good and bad at. Find the ones you're good at, and develop those skills (I had to actually explain this to a college class when the professor taught everyone about "open" and "closed' mindsets or something, and basically told the whole class "you're all special snowflakes that can do and be anything you want in life if you just work at it." I almost vomited, and went on a huge rant in class about how this graduate student TA wasn't a real professor, and is teaching dangerous shit. How "I'm 5'6" and thank god I didn't have teachers like this, telling me I could be in the NBA if I "just worked hard enough," and thank god I instead had parents and teachers that helped me find what I was good at, and cultivate those skills, because no, you can't be/do anything you want

(sorry, guess that wasn't much a tl;dr - whoops)

Yup, there's no logic behind it. When it all first got big this was always my argument, and even got a fair amount of super liberal/progressive pro-trans types to acknowledge it and be like "hmmm... you make a good point." Basically, I'd always kind of socratic method them with a discussion, and that discussion basically always held this message:

"Ok... so, I get it, and I'm cool with it... be whatever you want. But here's what doesn't make sense to me: Ok, so... gender is just a social construct, right? What makes one a 'man' vs a 'woman,' is just what society tells us, and it's all just based on societal norms and social constructs. Cool. So, a guy can have what society considers to be more feminine traits, and vice versa. I get all that. So... if it's all just social constructs... then why identify as the opposite? Because we've established gender and sex are different, sex is biological, and gender is just a social construct... so... you're still just a guy, but a more feminine one based on what society says is manly vs feminine, right? And then, even more so... if gender is just a social construct, and you identify traits that are typically associated, by society, with the other sex... why do you need to change your sex? Your gender and your sex is different, gender is just a social construct, so you're just a guy that's more feminine, or a girl that's more manly... and if it's just a social construct that doesn't matter, why is it so important that you change your sex to align with society's definition and understanding of gender? Just sounds hypocritical to me? Just be who you are, and what you were born as, instead of trying so hard to change it. To me... sounds a lot like a gay person forcing themselves to be straight because of societal constructs and norms, no?"

Because he's right, and the most relevant point is when the incoming VP resigns. So, in this case, we'd look at Biden (during Obama admin), and Pence (for Trump's 1st term). Biden didn't resign until (I think) January 15th (it was within a few days of 1/20), and Pence didn't resign until January 9th (as that was the day the new governor took office — and Gore wasn't until January, too). So, this really isn't indicative of anything... Harris is currently holding her seat still, just as the last 2 VPs did at this point in time. Call me a shill all you want, it's just the facts, and my history should make it clear I'm not a shill, research more than almost anyone, and remain more optimistic than nearly everyone when it comes to Trump's 2nd term. This just isn't one of the reasons - it means nothing, and indicates nothing. It's standard. If we go around to normies and/or leftists with this, as some kind of meaningful indication, we just look stupid.

He was also a HAM radio operator. That’s how my grandpa knew a lot.

Forgot all about this. I'm not sure how active he is with it anymore, but he's also a HAM radio operator.

Spend as much time as possible with him. You’ll miss him when he’s gone.

I know... I've lived out of state for about 7 years now and haven't seen him in over a year. Before the pandemic, I still saw him and my grandma fairly often (very lucky to still have the two of them), as I'd make an effort to get home at least once a month or so. I'm so fucking angry with everything right now and still really bitter that my fiancee and I basically did nothing for Christmas, my mom basically sat at home alone with my brother (he's a doctor and recently got over covid so my mom was comfortable with him around... she's super based and really smart, but man... they really did a number on her w/ the virus propaganda. Anyway...), and my grandparents stayed home as well, so the best I could do was give them a call and talk to them both for a bit. I've honestly been having nightmares semi-often that I'm never going to see either of them again. I don't think my grandfather would care if I came to visit, but my grandmother is on the same page as my mom, maybe even worse, so I don't know (I'd try to plan a meet up, but he's not super mobile and kind of relies on my grandmother to get him around. He's actually in decent shape, but for about 10 years his knees have been destroyed and he refuses to get them fixed).

Geez, I can't shut myself up this morning (coffee lol). Thanks for the kind words and reminder though fren'

Yup, I noticed this talking with my grandfather when I called on Christmas. He's incredibly smart, literally genius level IQ (built the first working television in my state for a high school science fair. It was so early that the state didn't have any channels at the time, so they had to wait a few months for the first one to see if his TV worked and give him 1st place. He still has the newspaper article. Also put up some kind of first radio tower in our state when in the army, the list goes on. Anyway), but, he's also really old, in his 90s, so he isn't aware of this site, any alt-tech or alt-media, and basically relies on what he can get on TV, and... basically talking to him was like talking to anyone else that's on TD.w everyday. He knows what's going on, and it was great talking to him. He couldn't stop laughing when, after he mentioned something about commies, I said "McCarthy was right," and he's super pissed about what they did to Trump. He's aware of all the fraud, he understands exactly how they stole this election, and understands that our country right now is facing very dire circumstances. He's also sickened by what leftists have become, and how Trump supporters are essentially treated like Jews in 30s Germany now, like second class citizens. I guess, long story short... even people in their 90s who are never on this site, and mostly rely on MSM, see and understand what's happening.

I have noticed a MASSIVE increase in almost Stormfront-like comments/posts about Jews; I check users comment/post history before deporting, and come to find nearly every-other post is about Jews. Needless to say the past week or two I've been deporting fairly often (something I'd never done over the past year, or rarely, anyway). They're literally Jew-obsessed, fuck is wrong with these people? Some of the shit is so hilariously absurd that it almost comes across as satire or a quote from the Jojo Rabbit movie. And the lack of factual info regarding it... my god. Being half-Jewish, I don't care all that much, but being a historian, it's really frustrating to read some of this; it's wild what some of these people genuinely think to be factual

7
I_Used_to_be_me 7 points ago +8 / -1

I think you need to be more specific. Do you mean Israelis? Middle Eastern Jews? Zionists? Jews in name only (your Soros, Sulzbergers, Rothschilds, general non-secular types)? Just a strange comment, given the massively large percentage of Jews that are... European, or of European descent. I'm half Jewish/my mother's side is Jewish, and... we're all European — just as European as my Italian side. All the Jews I grew up with were European descent as well. Hell, even Ashkenazi Jews are, genetically, European. Of course, there'd be even more European Jews if it weren't for a particular groups "unnatural hatred for beautiful [Jewish] Europeans, because they believed they were superior" but still, the point remains. Jews are oft European. (Rivlin is Jewish, and of European descent, fwiw)

Yeah, for me, I had a literal "warroom" setup, with something like 7 screens: 4 tvs and 3 digital (laptop, computer, and tablet), So I had every news channel on, along with the crowder stream, a digital electoral map, and TD.W. open between all of them. Fox, I had unmuted for a bit. I was first... confused, when they called Virginia for Biden, despite it being something like 60% of the vote in, with Trump having a sizable lead. I texted my dad and uncle (ongoing group chat... still going today lol) about it, but left the volume on, as Tucker made a couple appearances. Then that retard came in to call Arizona for Biden, and Fox was officially done. I haven't watched a single minute since that call - that was it for me, and Fox was dead. I always knew they were still MSM and controlled opposition, so was never a major fan anyway, but I tuned in for the few I liked (Tucker, Gutfeld/the Five/Watters/Levin/Hegseth). But that was it for me, and I haven't looked back.

I_Used_to_be_me 2 points ago +2 / -0

Yup, it's sad, especially with companies that are basically American hallmarks. When my grandfather was my age, he wouldn't have even been able to fathom the idea of purchasing and wearing a pair of Levis and Frye Boots (one of the, if not the oldest, U.S. boot manufacturer, until recently), and neither of them being made in America, or even owned 100% by Americans. Thankfully there's still some great U.S. made boots, though jeans are getting harder and harder (and pricier) to come by. Fucking JEANS!! American as Apple Pie, and hardly an American pair to be found :(

edit - Levis especially have gone to shit, and because they're made in so many different places now, there's no consistency (in quality, as well as in fit) — that was one of the biggest selling points: that I knew I could walk in, and buy a pair of Levis jeans just by knowing my size, and knowing they'd fit perfect — and now, that's not the case. I have to make sure they are either made in Mexico or Egypt (at least for me, these are the only consistent ones), because all the other countries (bangladesh, etc) fit like garbage, with quality to match. Almost all the American factory's gear was sent to the Mexico plants, so that makes sense as to why their's are decent enough; Egypt... maybe because they have really good cotton in that region (Mike Lindell, Giza sheets! lol). In any case, I need to find a decent U.S. jean company, with at least semi-reasonable prices (or, if expensive, need to at least last me a long time). Anyway, yea... jeans. boots. appliances. cars. Nothing has actually improved in quality, and almost all but a few ditched America to capitalize on China's slave labor (at the cost of extracting U.S. wealth to foreign nations)

^^This is actually really great advice, even if you aren't suicidal and just struggling right now. Seriously — if this forum is the only place you have, certainly rely on us, too, we'll help; but give them a call, too, if you think talking to someone, and actually hearing a voice, might help. Seriously. My next door neighbor (well, my mom's/my neighbor growing up) works for them (I'm not sure if it's the national hotline, or a similar one, but the point remains) so I've heard a fair amount from her, and the hotline really isn't exactly what a lot of people expect. It's not just for people that need to be talked off the ledge, but people just struggling and in a really difficult place in their life. If my own experiences talking with my neighbor is any indication of what calling there is like, than I couldn't recommend it more. In any case, there isn't much I can say to quell the hurt right now, but I'm certainly here to listen or help in any way possible. I can't imagine what you're going through right now, but just know that even the worst feeling of despair is a temporary and fleeting feeling, and things will get better. That doesn't help right now, but hang in there, acknowledge your feelings and let it out right now (here, in your head, whatever), and continue to reach out to us and everyone here about anything. All the best bud
