That is not a typo. 22%. The media is using the Case Fatality Rate for Covid-19 and comparing it to the total death rate for seasonal influenza.
From the CDC:
"Estimates of influenza-associated illness are made by multiplying the number of hospitalizations by the ratio of illnesses to hospitalizations; estimates of medical visits are made by a similar process. These multipliers are based on data from a prior season, which may not be accurate if patterns of care-seeking have changed."
They use this calculation to get ~45,000,000 estimated cases of the flu for that season. 61,099 people died giving us the famous 0.1% death rate. Problem?

They're using no such calculations for Covid-19. They're using the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) i.e. deaths of people "from" Covid-19/total cases of Covid-19. As of now that's 115/7,324=1.6%. The media and our lovely CDC then say 16x more deadly than the flu!

How many confirmed cases of influenza were there during the 2017-2018 flu season? https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/54973 224,113 + https://stacks.cdc.gov/view/cdc/54974 53,790 = 277,903 confirmed cases of influenza. If we use the same math they're using for Covid-19 we get a CFR of 61,009/277,903=22%!
That is to say, the flu season of 2017-2018 was almost 13x more deadly than Covid-19.
