I know people here do not want to hear this, but that’s not how any of this works, as someone who works in the field.

Some basic facts:

COVID-19 appears to take approximately 2-3 weeks to develop severe symptoms and either kill or resolve. Let us call this 2.5 weeks or 18 days.

Not all infections are detected, and not all detections are hospitalized. What these people do in the interim tells you about the rate of spread.

Epidemics progress exponentially. 3 weeks ago Italy had barely any cases and few deaths.

The 59 deaths we have, if the OP is correct here, are 59 deaths due to infections from 2-3 weeks ago. If we have been having silent community spread, 2-3 weeks from now our death count will be in the high hundreds to over 1,000. If we do not take measures to socially distance and quarantine, that will continue to accelerate.

Don’t believe me? Remember this comment and check back in 2-3 weeks.

Trump needs to react aggressively here. He has begun to kick into gear but he can do more. The media is uselessly fear mongering and the government is waiting too long. The best response so far is probably DeWine in Ohio. Trump needs to show us what A+ leadership looks like here.

This is going to suck a lot more than people think. We would be better off if everyone knew that and was ready to do their part to slow the spread and not hoarding dumb shit like TP because the national guard was deployed and ready for emergency relief efforts etc.

None of the data we currently have indicates this is less bad than the flu, for an equivalent level of virulence.

If 30-50 million get this, then if the current ncov2019.live/data numbers are correct, we are looking at a death toll of 1.75 to 3 million dead.

CFR is properly computed as dead / (dead + recovered), not total diagnosed, as many of those are still progressing and may yet die.

In reality, the CFR is probably closer to 1% (it's certain we are not detecting all infected), but a 30-50 million spread now means 300,000 to 500,000 dead in that context, which would be 6x-10x as bad as the flu for the same number of infections, especially harming the elderly.

This is not world ending, but it's also not the flu. We should be cautious but not wrapped up in insane panic, and we need to respond faster and more aggressively up front to cut it off.

I have worked with Judith Curry. One of the brightest people I know. Saying she is not a scientist is like saying LeBron James is not a basketball player.

Domwins!

And I think it would be a good idea to rebuild an actual sense of group and broaden our reach.

This is a huge deal. The right has needed to get with the program and take the fight to tech for a long time. If this actually happens and we end up with a right-controlled Twitter, the battlefield totally changes.

Death throes? No. A long, slowly decline into irrelevance, like any major city run by Democrats?

Oh yes.

Time for the rest of us to build a foundation...

And then a giant wall to keep the socialists out of the House, the Senate, and the White House.

Who could have seen this coming, though? Don't all people outside of evil racists love Castro, that bringer of literacy and freedom by shooting everyone who disagrees with him in even small ways?

Once you factor in Republicans consistently outperforming the polls in the last election, this result is even more dramatic.

The nomination of Sanders probably leads to a parallel outcome to the latest UK election, but we cannot be complacent! Everyone has to get out and vote, and act like everything depends on it.

Because it fucking does.

It would be building a base of power here, and then sharing links as widely as you can, via all channels.

There's no reason the site could not be set up to allow more forums beyond just this; arguably it should be. There are several (conservative, KotakuInAction, etc.) that would probably enjoy being on a platform without the speech restrictions if it also doesn't descend into the shitfuck that Voat is, for instance.

Do not do this. You can find much better lawyers. You want someone with experience in 1A issues as well as consumer welfare law, specifically CA law.
