Cancer did him in.
Not enough power is being produced. Some Texans are blaming that on Windmills freezing, but they only plan for 25% of all power produced in Texas in the winter & are only responsible for 13% of outages this time. Texans mostly rely on other sources in the winter. So what are the bigger sources of power that are underperforming in this time of great need? Some of our countries biggest oil refineries and many natural gas facilities and pipelines were never winterized and thus wellheads and pipelines froze. Texans were warned of this potential problem but failed to address it years earlier. Also, greater needs due to extreme weather are leading to record consumption of gas, which leads to depressuring gas lines, which results in shutdowns. Did you know that there are 3 electrical grids in our country: the Eastern Grid, the Western Grid, and ERCOT which is the Texas Grid. Yes, Texas has their own grid, while the other lower 48 states have joined together. Texas opted out of a deal with neighboring states to join their grid (which does hurt them in emergency times like these) because Texans balked at the regulations that went along with that agreement. Texas's own grid means power does not cross state lines and therefore does not have to abide by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. So who is to blame for the power outages? Weather AND Texans.
