CANTON – A Canton man apologized and told a judge Tuesday he wasn't thinking clearly while he repeatedly kicked and stomped a man nearly 80 times, killing him.

Kevin D. Bradford, 19, avoided his scheduled trial by pleading guilty to charges in Stark County Common Pleas Court for the death of Christopher J. Bowers, 50.

Bradford's trial was slated for Wednesday in Judge Frank Forchione's courtroom.

Forchione asked Bradford what he thought was going to happen when he was repeatedly kicking and stomping the victim.

"Honestly, your honor, I honestly don't know what I thought was going to happen... I was blacked out the moment " Bradford tried to explain.

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione sentenced Kevin D. Bradford to 15 years to life in prison for the murder of Christopher Bowers. Stark County Common Pleas Judge Frank Forchione sentenced Kevin D. Bradford to 15 years to life in prison for the murder of Christopher Bowers. CASSANDRA NIST Bradford plea agreement with county prosecutors dismissed one murder count. He pleaded guilty to counts of murder and felonious assault. The counts were merged and Forchione sentenced Bradford to 15 years in prison to life.

On Oct. 11, Canton police were called to the 1400 block of Robin Court where officers found Bowers lying in the street. He was transported to Aultman Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Bradford was later arrested by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Bowers' three children and several other family members appeared in court for Bradford's sentencing, but did not wish to address the defendant.

Kevin Bradford apologized to the Bowers family in court, stating he didn't know what happened that night and hoped they could one day forgive him. Kevin Bradford apologized to the Bowers family in court, stating he didn't know what happened that night and hoped they could one day forgive him. CASSANDRA NIST Bradford, alone in court represented defense attorneys Kelly Murray and Cole Bond, addressed the Bowers family in a statement he read aloud.

"I am very sorry for what I did that night. While I've been in jail, I have been trying to figure out why that happened and why I acted that way. I wish I could tell you, but I still don't know. I started drinking a lot since my cousin died. It's been awful, and now I've done something awful and made your lives awful. I am so sorry, and I want to change my life and I know I'll have a long time to work on that. I don't know how you could, but I hope someday you can forgive me," Bradford said.

Forchione acknowledged Bradford's change of plea as a step of decency, but said he couldn't understand why Bradford told police "I never wanted to take his life."

Forchione went on to say that he didn't know how Bradford could rationalize kicking and stomping a man in the head nearly 80 times over the span of 25 minutes.

"The I-drank-too-much-tequila excuse is meaningless in this courtroom... there's too much of this going on in society where young people, whether it's drugs or alcohol, wake up the next day and realize what they've done. Sometimes they'll come into my courtroom and ask for a redo, like it's a computer game. Life is not a computer game, it's a series of choices and decisions... and unfortunately here, you've made the poorest decision," Forchione said.

Assistant Prosecutor Kristen Mlinar addressed the court and Bradford, stating that while there was some honor in admitting his crimes, they still don't understand why Bradford murdered Bowers - even after he provided a statement in court and to police.

"It was a brutal, a horrible thing that happened that night and he has a lot of time to work on himself... he can join a gang and spend the rest of his life in prison, or he can take the opportunity to reflect and become a better person. It is really up to him," Mlinar said.

The video reportedly shows Unanka left her room around 2:09 a.m. and could be seen glancing around and checking the area for other people. During the next five minutes, she entered a lounge area and a bathroom before returning to her room,” the LaCrosse Tribune’s Steve Rundio reported.

“The report says after the camera picked up images of smoke around 2:14 a.m., Unanka frantically knocked on multiple residents’ doors and pulled a fire alarm. When police arrived at the scene, several students were discussing concerns that the fire was another hate crime incident.”

That may well have been exactly the impression Unanka was trying to create.

When confronted with evidence from the videos, Unanka’s story changed.

https://www.lawenforcementtoday.com/study-shows-that-blacks-and-biden-voters-vastly-overestimate-number-of-blacks-killed-by-police/

When you see the anti-police sentiment sweeping the country, it is largely being driven by the media, Democrats, and far-left radicals who make the claim that police are engaged in a virtual genocide against people of color, but primarily black men.

That storyline has led to a demonization of the police not seen in a generation, if ever. The worst part about that narrative? It is 100% false, and statistics bear that out.

Why then does the perception exist that the killing of black men by police is as common as people think it is? A recent study says that depends on your demographic makeup.

In fact, that study showed that the American people significantly overestimate the frequency with which black men are killed, and more so those beliefs are closely connected to their political affiliation.

Statistically, black men ages 25-29 are more likely—in fact five times more likely—to get killed in a traffic accident than they are getting killed by a police officer using any method of force.

Yet, eight out of ten black residents in responding to the survey believe young black men are more likely to get killed in a police shooting than in traffic accidents.

Conversely, blacks who voted for President Trump last November were much less likely to believe that young black men died at the hands of police than were killed in vehicular accidents.

Still, a majority of them…53% guessed incorrectly, which seemed to indicate that such a belief was not simply a matter of ideology. However among Biden voters, 81% were incorrect.

The study showed the demographic closest to getting the answer correct were white Trump voters, where only 15% incorrectly believed police killed more young black men than were killed in car accidents. For white Biden voters, the figure was 53%, and about 10 points higher than that for highly educated white liberals.

The surveys, which were conducted in November and December of last year were enclosed in a report on “The Social Construction of Racism in the United States,” conducted by University of London politics professor Eric Kaufmann. The data he collected on police killings and traffic deaths were gleaned from science journals and a highway insurance nonprofit.

Kaufmann’s study found that ideology, who respondents voted for in the presidential election, and their view on whether “white Republicans are racist” had more of an effect than race on a person’s answer to the question.

He noted that education made nearly no difference whatsoever in how black respondents answered—78% of non-college graduates and 76% of college graduates believed police shootings killed more young black men than traffic accidents.

However white (70%) and black (95%) respondents who held the belief that “white Republicans are racist” were the farthest off. Kaufmann noted his findings mirrored a recent survey series conducted by the Skeptic Research center, which showed “very liberal” Americans believed police killed at least 1,000 unarmed black men in 2019—which he called “a likely error of at least an order of magnitude.”

In fact, according to studies, only nine unarmed black men were killed by police in 2019.
