shoutout to u/txladyvoter for the transcriptions!
Truth be told, I just let my nerves get to me. I suppose I was afraid that there would be consequences - I didn't want to stick out? The lady I ran into showed me how easy it really was... so I am very thankful for that. I guess sometimes all it really takes is one.
Oh but wait... It gets worse: https://i.maga.host/XMW4gwa.png https://twitter.com/shampoob0ttles/status/1268189454050656259?s=20
Currently I run an UnRAID box with 6x8TB hard drives in a parity protected array. I do have it on an APC UPS with voltage regulation. It's hooked up to the sever via USB. When the power goes out, it spins down the array after 15 min and gracefully shuts down the server. Keeps the rest of my networking equipment online until the battery dies (90 min or so), so the wifi and whatnot will stay up.
We have a lot of intermittent power outages and brownouts where I live, but they typically never last more than a couple minutes. I think I have close to 6 months of uptime on it now.
I haven't played with FreeNAS at all, I did some research into it when I set up this home server, but ultimately settled un UnRAID. I liked the way UnRAID handles docker containers better - but it's been quite some time since I looked into it. Wouldn't switch now though, too much stuff that I don't want to reprogram for another OS.
Interesting - So does that have to do with DNS? I do have a domain name that points to my server's ip address currently. I purchased the domain and set it up to redirect to my static IP and port number, seems to work well for simple web hosting at least.
Oh shit, you'll love this: If you go to the top right (windows) or left (mac) there will be a red button on your browser window. If you click it, you can immediately stop seeing 'this crap', no need to wait.
