I loved this attorney's throwaway dismissals ("yeah, we heard you", etc.) because it's clear he's just so tired of the bullshit talking points and that is EXACTLY how many of us feel. He's already 2 steps ahead of her* OODA loop, and she has no idea what to do about it.

Your comment about split thinking is interesting. I think it mirrors the "private self" and "public self" that many living under communism had to endure (and towards which we are moving). I have several friends who escaped the soviet union and all say the erosion of trust and inability to speak openly is the greatest loss. It forces people to never develop their authentic beliefs and everyone is guarded.

I read recently that in the town of Siler City, 60% of its kindergarden class does not speak English. I guess they're all "dreamers". (e.g. anchor babies).
Clinton's antics opened a lot of eyes. The persistent corruption of Obama and his America-Last + black supremacy policies were another step. The rise of Fox News (rise and fall -- now Faux News) gave the "casuals" access to a different viewpoint on news. That is now gone.
Some who were lockstep democrat voters opened their eyes. Some, not all and certainly not most. Now their children are being raised by the government schools and media apparatchiks to be SJW trans activists, to hate themselves and their history, so the young voters fall right back into the arms of the democrat party's welcoming (smothering) embrace.
And so the world turns.
I've had this discussion with WVers - "why would you have voted for that corrupt bastard?" answer "He brings home the bacon!" At one point Byrd was funneling half of the national highway budget into his state. So most DGAF what it does to the rest of the country, or whether it's right, so long as "their guy" "brings home the bacon" (i.e. federal funds). Shameful.
As for where people work - don't forget prisons and healthcare/hospitals which make up a HUGE percentage of employers in that state.
It's not just the rural folks on drugs. Driving through WV a few years ago on my way to a sales meeting in Indiana, I had lunch at a diner in Huntington, and had a really interesting, frank discussion with a city cop on his break. We talked about the economy, crime, drugs, etc. and the changes to the town over the past decade or two. The quote the stands out in my mind: "At least 1 in 5 people driving past this window are on pills - legal or illegal" as he motioned toward the boulevard. I couldn't believe it but he insisted - "if you could ride along with me for one morning you would change your mind. It's really, really bad out here." The waitress said the other quote that sticks with me : "I bet it's one in four. If everybody high turned blue you'd think you lived in Smurfville."
