So when a student says I want a loan to go to college.... And the bank says OK here are the terms this is how loans work, here's a very detailed contract that you should read and sign..... And the person says yes I want the loan and signs on the dotted line, the bank is the bad guy. Listen I understand and feel a little bad for people who took out multiple loans to get a worthless graduate degree in sociology and can't find a job, but they made decisions that everyone else has the option of making. Canceling will force it to be paid by taxpayers. You'll have plenty of people who decided they couldn't afford college or didn't want to go, or people who went and picked real majors, or at least stayed within their means. There are income based repayment plans and other long term options. And if we're canceling student debt, is college now free? Who pays for that? Or is it just for the current generation of whiny communists who picked dumb shit in college and don't like working hard so they just collect unemployment and fucking whine? Everyone else already paid their debt or didn't have it.
