There is speculation that japan downplays their numbers for a variety of reasons- the Olympics, pride, economic stability... none the less we see they are not overwhelmed and the same goes for South Korea and Taiwan. Tokyo is like 3 times the size of NYC and many people take the train, not every case in New York was in nursing home, they got hit hard because there is a lot of travel there, it is densely populated with many taking trains and they dont wear masks. It is crazy to think it's not a good and practical idea for subway riders in NYC to wear masks at this point, the reasons about transmission I wrote in other comments about water droplets make that clear.

If you have symptoms of covid you should get tested and if positive quarantine. That 30%, possibly much more, cases of covid are asymptomatic are the reason that everyone should wear a mask.

That people in japan are responsible and conscientious are why they have lower infection rates.

Even if you remove the nursing homes from the equation our death rate and rate of spread are way higher than Japan, s korea, Taiwan. Countries in Europe and canada had lower death rates than the US but higher than japan etc... And the reason masks work is apparent, as I've mentioned they reduce viral load in the air by blocking moisture droplets. You see the countries in europe with the highest death rates are ones where people kiss each other all the time.

Mask wearing is a simple and effective mitigating method and its increasingly clear to all, the reasons to oppose it are kind of trivial, it makes people look foolish. No one is saying wear a mask at all times, but when you go to a store, on a train, this is how you reopen the economy and protect people who work in stores etc...

The virus itself is smaller than the holes in a cloth mask, but as i said in other comments there is a lot of indication that it is transmitted in water droplets. That the main spread case in South Korea was at a church where they were doing something which involved spraying. Or in italy where soccer matches where crowds scream and yell was a super spreader.

And this is intuitive, we know a sneeze with its moisture will release the virus and you dont want to be sneezed on by a sick person, that person cover there sneeze so the germs dont go spraying everywhere.

That the virus is attached to moisture and the masks reduce the emitted moisture, so in enclosed spaces like subways or even stores, people wearing masks reduces viral load in the air by reducing moisture and fewer people will contract the virus. It does not eliminate it but it slows its spread. That's why all these mask wearing countries- japan, South Korea, taiwan, have slower spread, japan did not even have lockdown, what they do different is the majority wears masks.

So then what did japan do different that they had such slower spread ?

They arent, I dont think they could, but the net effect is that between the hispanics and blacks who dont wear the mask in the cities who see such higher rates of infections, and the large bulk of conservatives who dont although less at risk because of usually being in more rural envieonments, means that there will be higher spread than in a country like japan, which although very crowded has thoughtful and responsible people, not reactionaries who refuse to do anything not directly for themselves unless compelled or paid. Or refuse to believe anything but what is convenient for them to believe.

Wearing a mask is a good idea and pretty fucking easy. In this case conservatives are worse than libs are with HCQ.

But it is certainly not all conservatives against the mask.

Yeah but in this situation they certainly increased mask wearing on account the virus, and the fact they all, or most, do this has inhibited the spread.

It is more than anecdotal this diminishes spread, we see all the super spreader cases are at soccer games and choir practices where moisture droplets are emitted. The virus may penetrate the mask but wearing a mask lessens the viral load in the air by trapping some moisture, its effect is to reduce viral load in the air and thus reduce the rate of transmission.

I get that it's not normative in america to do this, and it contributes to an atmosphere of anxiety, however covid is serious and like the japanese we should be conscientious and responsible, not dragged kicking and screaming, this is an instance where trumpets look as bad as libtards and this phenonmenan is validating that to people.

Also the masks help, Tokyo, Seoul, taiwan, they all wear masks

Not only did it start in china, it spread because of all the parades around chinese new year, which brought in travelers (largely Chinese) from all over the world and then traveled back to their home countries and had new years celebrations there. That is why NYC is getting hit the hardest, they have 1 million chinese many of whom traveled to china in january and participated in these parades and came back and NYC gov virtue signaled telling everyone to attend the parades and not like virus stigma stop them. On top of this you have NYC's populations density.

The virus can be contained, in japan they did not do testing but people keep their distance and wear masks. While in italy people regularly kiss each other.

It did, but I used it correctly- a bigot is someone who doesnt respect people with different views. The left is full of bigots and yes they call everyone a bigot and a racist.... but ben is not a bigot, he does not act like 'everyone who doesnt agree with me is an idiot'
