I highly suggest anyone unfamiliar with the events take a moment to familiarize themselves with the wheelings and dealings that ultimately led to the creation of the two party system that has survived to modern times. Ultimately, justice and the will of the voters prevailed, albeit after four years, which is a luxury we cannot afford in this age.

No, each state gets one vote each tallied up by their respective representatives. More states have Republican majorities. It doesn’t matter whether a state has 53 reps or 6, each state gets one vote and one vote only. This has happened before. Check into the election of 1824 to see how the process plays out.
