There’s nothing in the law that gives cops the right to shoot someone other than in self defense or the defense of the public. That is his defense here. That is what the DOJ said in their decision not to charge the officer. There were other officers much closer to her than he was. How was he able to make that call but they didn’t?
I’ve seen police get charged for less. I didn’t see the officer who shot her give her commands and how is it fair to say the officer had reason to think she was dangerous when there were other officers around her?

Civilians will never find themselves in this predicament. Minnesota statute on manslaughter says “...and consciously causes the death or great bodily harm.” Did she consciously fire her pistol? Should we charge health professionals with manslaughter if they accidentally administer the wrong drugs and cause the death of a patient?
