I've met a lot of burnouts who brag about their 'genius' who are smarter than him. Most people seem far more moral.
Some half-competent software businessman with overtly evil intentions does not seem like the person to go to for this, unless he wants to inject corruption with money.
Who stood to earn money from this system? Did people really work extremely hard to secure trillions of dollars of funding for the well-being of slightly disadvantaged 18-year-olds? Or were they trying to enrich themselves?
Responsibility matters to any field. Most view their work in terms of rankings compared to others, where they do better than any other available doctor could, so they feel aggreived when antagonized because the patient would have ended up worse off without their attempt.
He just wanted to get off on condescending to people. No one in their right mind believes these people did not know what he knew, like he needed to tell them.
